Leaders announced for IUPUI Center for Transfer and Adult Students

The Division of Undergraduate Education has announced two key leaders for the Center for Transfer and Adult Students (CTAS). Kristy Sheeler, interim associate vice chancellor for undergraduate education and dean of University College, has appointed Robbie Lopez-Shue to serve as the managing director for CTAS. In this role, Lopez-Shue will guide the strategic direction for the office, which serves students joining IUPUI from other institutions and returning and part-time students as they balance studies with the responsibilities of adult life. At the heart of Lopez-Shue’s work is the partnership with Ivy Tech Community College that is embodied in the Passport Program, facilitating transfer and degree pathways between the two institutions.

Sheeler also appointed Robin Tew to serve as director of student success providing oversight for academic advising and student success coaching for students in the General Studies program and IU Online students. Tew supervises the advisors and coaches in providing proactive interventions to help students attain their degree objectives.

With steadfast commitments to supporting their students and their staff, they have shaped IUPUI’s new Center for Transfer and Adult Students into a high-functioning unit focused on supporting students who have a lot of responsibilities in their lives but have chosen to prioritize an IUPUI education.

“Robbie and Robin have done an excellent job leading the center in an interim capacity as we merged multiple offices and positions in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated hiring freezes,” Sheeler said. “They’ve managed their team and our strategic partnerships with Ivy Tech and IU Online with grace, enthusiasm, and a consistent commitment to student success.”

CTAS is one of the advising and career education units in University College, reporting to Matthew Rust, senior executive director for Campus Career and Advising Services.

“I’ve been consistently impressed by how well Robbie and Robin have worked together to lead their office through a number of transitions these last two years,” Rust said. “With steadfast commitments to supporting their students and their staff, they have shaped IUPUI’s new Center for Transfer and Adult Students into a high-functioning unit focused on supporting students who have a lot of responsibilities in their lives but have chosen to prioritize an IUPUI education.”

Lopez-Shue and Tew began their permanent leadership roles on February 14. The Center for Transfer and Adult Students serves students out of its physical office in Hine Hall 121 but also offers virtual services through ctas.iupui.edu.
