Chad Childers, a 2017 graduate of the Medical Humanities and Health Studies (MHHS) program in the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI, was honored with the Flanner Buchanan Volunteer of the Month Award on Friday, April 19. He was nominated by Luonna Lancaster, Kindred Hospice volunteer manager, and presented with the award by Maureen Lindley from Flanner Buchanan during the Friday morning class that he co-teaches and helped to create.
Childers was recognized for his service and commitment to the community. Flanner Buchanan Funeral Centers has been proud to have a volunteer of the month program for all hospices in central Indiana for the last six years. Each month, one nominated volunteer is selected for the honor based on their contributions to their hospice organization. The center hosts an annual banquet to honor all recipients and presents the Volunteer of the Year Award.
“I was quite surprised to receive the award, and while I’m happy to be recognized for my hard work, I’m even more pleased the course I helped create is receiving attention,” said Childers.
