Karley Clayton, a career consultant in University College’s Academic and Career Development (ACD) office, is a recipient of the IUPUI Gerald L. Bepko Staff Council Spirit Award. This prestigious award recognizes full-time staff members who, through extraordinary service and contributions, exemplify the spirit of IUPUI. Each year, staff are nominated based on their attitude, loyalty, teamwork, and contributions to the university. Recipients of the award were recently recognized at the Chancellor's Employee Recognition Ceremony, which is held every fall.

Clayton received her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse where she majored in biomedical sciences. Her master’s degree in student affairs administration in higher education was conferred from Ball State University. Since beginning in her role with ACD, Clayton has been a part of its orientation action team, has been elected to the board of the Career Services Council, has assisted with implementing a new living-learning community on campus, has chaired the Forced Fun Committee of ACD, and has worked with colleagues across campus to create an emerging professionals organization.

In a recent interview, Clayton expressed her appreciation for IUPUI, noting that every decision is rooted in the goal of enabling student success. In an effort to advance this goal, Clayton makes student success her ultimate priority through her work within the Arts, Humanities, and Human Services cluster of ACD. When asked to name the favorite aspect of her work, Clayton stated, “Being able to educate and empower students about their majors and career decisions is such a fun and rewarding job!”

Clayton attributes her own success at IUPUI to her colleagues, her supportive supervisor, and the culture of collaboration that exists throughout campus. She states, “I am fortunate to be surrounded by great colleagues both in ACD and in the greater IUPUI community who make coming to work enjoyable. Having such a positive work environment definitely empowers me to want to undertake new challenges, connect with more colleagues, and have fun at work.”

The IUPUI Gerald L. Bepko Staff Council Spirit Award is sponsored by the IUPUI Staff Council and administered by the Rewards and Recognition Committee.
