Several faculty and staff in the division were recognized for conference, local, and national awards received, as well as service appointments made from national organizations during the academic year. Gladden applauded the continual thirst of the division's faculty and staff for improvement and noted how that thirst directly impacts student success. Gladden also noted that "this division is a catalyst for student growth and development. . . . Every single interaction with students, even on your worst day, has meaning for them." At the conclusion of his remarks, Gladden challenged the ceremony attendees to reflect on their own personal growth and how they can encourage their colleagues and students to continue growing and achieving.
Similarly, during Chancellor Nasser H. Paydar's keynote address, he recognized the dedication of the division's faculty and staff and discussed several ingredients to student success, including holistic programs that address student needs. He remarked, "Every position is important. . . . We value what you are doing." He considers himself part of the DUE team and reminded the faculty and staff that they make a difference in students' lives daily.
Among the many being honored were Matt Boling, Wendy Crandall, Erica George, Michele George, Roxanne Gregg, and Brittany Veal for five years of service to the division. Celebrating 10 years of employment service were Brian Benedict, Brandi Gilbert, Amy Powell, Eric Sickles, and Rebecca Wald Stoker. The celebrants for 15 years were Suzanne Guinn, John Gullion, and Mark Minglin. Charlie Johnson was recognized for 20 years of service, and Sam Schwartz celebrated 25 years of service.
After the formal program, faculty and staff were given the opportunity to mingle and to enjoy lunch together. Maureen Kinney, executive director of Academic and Career Development in University College, described the recognition ceremony as "a great time to reflect on and celebrate all of the accomplishments of our colleagues this past year."
