Indianapolis, IN (October 2016) – The IUPUI Division of Undergraduate Education is proud to announce that Landon Brothers, assistant director for the Office of Tutorial Support in University College in the division, was awarded the IUPUI Gerald L. Bepko Staff Council Spirit Award at the Chancellor’s Employee Recognition Ceremony on September 21, 2016. Since 2004, the IUPUI Bepko Spirit Award has recognized annually three full-time staff members who exemplify the spirit of IUPUI through extraordinary service and special contributions which strengthen IUPUI by fostering collegiality, cooperation, creativity, and innovation to help IUPUI become one of the nation’s best urban universities for education and employment.
The spirit of IUPUI is demonstrated through one’s attitude, loyalty to one’s department or unit, teamwork, and professional contributions to the university’s mission, goals, and initiatives. Regarding teamwork, Brothers states, “We all work better together if we really operate as a team. We’ve found that if we can play off each other, we can really serve students much better than if we isolate or silence ourselves.”
The award was unexpected to Brothers. He says, “It was a surprise! I was completely caught off-guard, but excited. It was a great event; very well done.”
Brother’s role at IUPUI is to help students find tutoring on campus, which ranges from connecting students to university resources for academic success coaching or tutoring, like the Math Assistance Center (MAC) and the University Writing Center, to helping them find a private tutor, if necessary.
The IUPUI Bepko Spirit Award is sponsored by the IUPUI Staff Council with administration from the council’s Rewards and Recognition Committee.
