Indianapolis, IN (August, 2015) The Department of Academic Support Programs of University College congratulates Christina Caputo as a nominee to receive the 2015 Multicultural Impact Staff Award. Caputo serves as Assistant Director, Office of Academic Enrichment.
The Multicultural Impact Staff Award is given to a full-time staff member who promotes a campus climate where diversity is valued and accepted, energizes our understanding and appreciation of cultures from across the world, or champions social justice for all who work and learn at IUPUI. Nominees are evaluated on multicultural program participation and leadership; participating and leading in advancing IUPUI's diversity goals; contributing to the development and continuation of formal and informal networks for diversity groups; and demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to IUPUI's multicultural climate.
Mark Minglin, Director of the Department of Academic Support Programs notes, "In Cristina's tenure at IUPUI she has been exceedingly good at reaching across campus for collaborations and building community. This is evident in the programming she handles for the Office of Academic Enrichment. The partnerships have increased significantly and these collaborations have expanded our mission of student academic support... Christina has worked with the Multicultural staff to establish a Study Skills Boot Camp... Christina has championed the work that we do with our International Affairs Office."
Other areas that Caputo has enhanced IUPUI is through working with MOSAIC, co-organizing activities for the University College Diversity Retreat, chaired the sub-committee to continue conversations started at the retreat, promoted MOSAIC events, and facilitated diversity discussions.
Minglin summarized by stating, "Christina truly cares about expanding the focus of diversity in programming to increase success of our students at IUPUI."
Caputo will receive the award Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the Chancellor's Employee Recognition Ceremony. The ceremony will be held in Hine Hall Auditorium beginning at 2:30 p.m.
