Award-Winning Presentation Given by Staff of IUPUI’s Office of Student Employment

Indianapolis, IN (July 2015)- Jenna Corcoran, Craig Pelka, Dawn Rodney, and Robert Smith from the Office of Student Employment (OSE) in the Division of Undergraduate Education represented IUPUI at the Midwest Association of Student Employment Administrators' (MASEA) annual conference held at Berea College, in Berea, Kentucky from June 24-26, 2015.

The OSE staff submitted the winning presentation for a session entitled, "Pay it Forward with Appreciation: Customizing your Student Employment Week." The requirements for the presentation were to provide participants with strategies for developing and enhancing Student Employment Week on their campuses, with a specific emphasis on student employee appreciation. The win entitles the group to give their presentation at the National Student Employment Association (NSEA) conference in November 2015 in San Francisco, California.

The OSE staff gained as much from preparing the presentation and attending the conference as the participants in the session. As student employment consultants, Smith noted,"It was a rewarding and powerful experience to share knowledge I've gained in OSE with other professionals in the field of student employment. It made me realize how special IUPUI is and how proud I am to work here." Corcoran stated, "Being able to attend MASEA at Berea College and present was a wonderful experience. We all worked very hard to put together a workshop that showcased our success as an office." Rodney commented, "Attending this conference helped me to enhance my presentation skills and provided a great platform to exchange best practices. It's inspiring to be around people who have the same passion for promoting and enriching student employment initiatives on their campuses."/p>

Craig Pelka, assistant director of student employment and assessment for OSE reflects, "Being recognized at the 2015 Midwest Association of Student Employment Administrators (MASEA) annual conference in Berea, Kentucky, as the 'Best of MASEA' conference presentation is an honor for the Office of Student Employment and IUPUI as a whole. IUPUI's focus on student success transcends geographic and professional boundaries, and the Office of Student Employment is excited to contribute to this important mission, both at IUPUI and across the Midwest. We are thrilled to be able to share our knowledge and experiences with colleagues across the country at the upcoming National Student Employment Association (NSEA) annual conference in November!"
