IUPUI to Host 4th Annual National Mentoring Symposium

Thursday, October 10, 2013

Indianapolis, IN (October 2013) – IUPUI will host the 4th annual National Mentoring Symposium at the university’s Campus Center on Saturday, October 19, 2013. Peer mentoring programs from around the nation will be represented at this one-day national conference to offer a network of personal and professional development to peer mentors, peer mentoring program staff, and faculty.

This year’s keynote speaker will be Joshua Fredenburg, a national speaker, author, leadership expert, and Generation Y television commentator who is on a mission to empower at least one billion leaders worldwide with effective leadership, career, relationship, and success strategies that will enable them to make a positive impact in their community, nation, and the world.

A poster session will be available starting in the morning, and twenty-three concurrent sessions will run at various times throughout the day on such topics as cultural competency, online mentoring, and metacognition. Comments regarding the day’s events will be accessible via Twitter (#Mentoring2013).

While mentoring staff and instructors will be in attendance, student mentors will make up the majority of attendees at 85 percent. Additionally, current statistics regarding those planning to attend the symposium show that 71 percent will be first-time attendees. Outside of Indiana, the largest representation of attendees will be from Illinois. Kentucky has the next largest projected attendance followed closely by South Carolina. Other states to have represented universities or colleges will be Michigan, Ohio, North Carolina, New York, Nevada, and Florida.
