Indianapolis, IN (July 2013) – Victoria Lane, 19, of Greenwood, and Katherine Francom, 22, of Indianapolis, were each selected as a recipient of a $1,000 scholarship from the Indiana Members Credit Union (IMCU) for the 2013-14 academic year. Lane and Francom’s selection was based on their exemplary display of the company’s philosophy of “people helping people” in their own communities.
Francom has done extensive work with her church teaching Sunday school as well as volunteering as a coach for youth volleyball and working with the Ronald McDonald House. Lane has provided dedicated community service for Gleaners Food Bank and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful. Both students have jobs as well, so they were very thankful for the financial aid the scholarship provides. This year garnered 145 applicants, so for Lane “it came as a pleasant surprise.”
Indiana Members Credit Union CEO, Ron Collier, was very excited about the applicant pool and to know that so many students are pursuing a secondary education. He believes it is IMCU’s duty to help IUPUI and its students since the credit union was founded on IUPUI’s campus in 1956. Collier emphasized that IUPUI was a “vital” part of Indianapolis and that it “creates jobs and futures for many people.” Collier and Indiana Members Credit Union are glad to help any student who will one day contribute to Indianapolis’ workforce and who is currently helping the community through selfless service.
