INDIANAPOLIS, IN (May 2011) – The National Academic Advising Association has selected IUPUI University College as the recipient of two of their prestigious Outstanding Advising Program Awards.
University College academic advisor Rebecca Wald Stoker was selected as the winner of the Outstanding Advising Award in the Academic Advising-Primary Role category. This award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students or outstanding academic administration. The Academic Advising-Primary Role category includes those individuals whose primary role at the institution is the direct delivery of advising services to students.
I was really honored to be nominated for the award and was thrilled when I received the email notifying me that I had been selected as a recipient. I work hard to do things well because it is the right thing to do - for myself, for the students…, and my colleagues. I certainly was not expecting the award; however, the recognition is nice. Thank you to the students, faculty, and staff who wrote letters of support on my behalf. I appreciate the time and energy they took,” Wald Stoker said.
The Indianapolis campus’ advising program, IUPUI Nina Mason Pulliam Legacy Scholars Program, was also selected as the winner of the Outstanding Institutional Advising Program Certificate of Merit.
The NACADA Outstanding Advising Program Awards annually recognize programs that document innovative and/or exemplary practices resulting in improvement of academic advising service.
IUPUI University College advisors primarily help first- and second-year college students by advising them on the academic choices and opportunities available to them at the university.
