Indianapolis, IN (May 2011) – IUPUI University College would like to acknowledge Joey Dobson as one of the 2011 IUPUI Chancellor’s Honorable Mention recipients. Dobson, from Batesville, Indiana, is an IUPUI sophomore studying Nursing and Psychology and carries a 4.0 grade point average. Dobson states that she was excited once she found out that she was being considered for the Chancellor’s Honorable Mention. “[It] feels good to be recognized for my hard work.” Dobson believes that her passion for nursing is the key motivator behind her academics and for personal reasons would like to use her nursing degree in the prenatal field.
Dobson believes that her main strength academically is her ability to manage her time, while admitting that one of her weaknesses is coping with stress. She feels that the recognition for Chancellor’s Honorable Mention is a phenomenal achievement, but it also raises her self-expectation in striving for complete academic excellence since she strives to be perfect in all that she does.
Dobson contributes to her campus and community by being an active member in Alpha Lambda Delta honor society and working part-time in Plainfield, IN.
Dobson has been attending IUPUI since her freshman year, and chose IUPUI because of its nursing program. Although Dobson was satisfied with her freshman experience, if Dobson could change anything about her freshman experience, it would be to live in the Ball Hall dormitory during her freshman year.
Dobson is proud of her accomplishments and offers this advice to freshman: “Keep up with your studies, it’ll be worth it in the end; try not to stress too much; there is life outside of academics.
Dobson would like a career as a hospital nurse and then to teach nursing students in college during her retirement.
