Indianapolis, IN (May 2010) — Angela Carlen, Coordinator of Experiential Learning for Academic and Career Development, University College, received three grant awards during the month of April: GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) grant to purchase diversity-related materials for career library; PRAC (Program Review and Assessment Committee) grant to assess the IUPUI Externship Program; and CDPI (Career Development Professionals of Indiana) professional development award.
Carlen was awarded a $350 grant from the GLBT Faculty Staff Council to be used toward purchasing materials that relate to GLBT issues and careers such as being out in the workplace and handling interviewing as well as legal issues unique to this population. These materials will be placed in the Academic and Career Development library in University College. In addition, Carlen will give a presentation to the academic and career development staff as a result of receiving this grant.
The $1500 IUPUI PRAC grant was awarded to Carlen to help fund her project titled, “Evaluation of the Affects of Student Participation in the Externship Program and Relationship of IUPUI’s Principles of Undergraduate Learning.”
Carlen’s efforts have been rewarded by funding support in order for her to enhance program operations in a time of limited funds and resources. She has taken initiative and creative thinking to a level that will continue to strengthen the programs of Academic and Career Development in University College.
